Keynotes that ensure your teams are prepared for their worst days
Keynote
FROM CHAOS TO CONTROL
From Chaos to Control
When things go wrong, as they undoubtedly will, your organisation (regardless of its size) needs to be able to deal with the situation effectively.
Step one needs to be an effective assessment of the situation. Is this truly a problem? Can it be handled as business-as-usual (BAU), or do you need an incident management team, or, is this truly a crisis?
Be warned – When everything is a crisis, nothing is a crisis!
On one of my worst days on the rescue helicopter, a person we had just rescued off a disabled yacht fell from our rescue harness and back into the raging sea below, where we quickly lost sight of him. It was a horrible moment for us (and him!), but thanks to remaining calm and in BAU mode, we found and rescued him a second time. It was all handled by the team in the helicopter in real time. Our CEO and governance weren’t consulted – they did their jobs when they ensured we had the money for the right equipment and training. And once the rescue was completed we not only identified lessons, but we implemented change – which is how we knew the lesson was learned!
Takeaways from this keynote include:
- An understanding of the difference between business-as-usual, an incident and a crisis
- The importance of separating governance from your assessment, incident and crisis management teams
- Strategies to strengthen organisational resilience through a proven framework to prepare for, respond to and recover from any incident or crisis.
- Six questions a team can use to assess any situation, create understanding and determine priorities.
- Four steps to ensure the physical safety of team members during an incident
Dave was the keynote speaker for our ServiceIQ Business Briefings, which involved 14 events from one end of the country to the other.
He was entertaining and interesting, and the feedback after each event was excellent, with people finding Dave’s talk engaging and well worth their time attending.
Dave is very easy to work with, taking on board the purpose of the event and integrating this into his keynote as appropriate. He also adapted his talk and style to each venue and audience size, whether a big crowd in Auckland or a more intimate group in small centres. As usual with these things, there were last minute issues, none of which phased him.
Highly recommended.
His ability to captivate the audience and impart valuable lessons left a lasting impression on everyone present.
